Longtime resident
Faye L. Clapp, 86, a longtime resident of Alamogordo, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, Texas.
Mrs. Clapp was born Aug. 21, 1922, in Chilicothe, Mo., to Jacob and Jessie (Martin) Riepe. She graduated from high school in Marceline, Mo., and attended Iowa Wesley University and Kirksville State Teachers College in Missouri. She married Robert C. Clapp, D.O. on Dec. 20, 1941, and taught in a country school. Dr. and Mrs. Clapp moved to Alamogordo in December 1945 after the birth of their first daughter Reba, and three more children were born: Stephen, Stuart and Debbie. Faye was active in Associated Charities, Alamogordo Woman's Club and Eastern Star, and was district cookie chairman of the Girls Scouts and a member of ABWA. Faye also assisted in Alamogordo's 50-year anniversary celebration. She was active with the Otero County Fair, La Luz Gallery and Grace United Methodist Church. Faye worked for 32 years in her husband's office. She loved making crafts for craft fairs and also enjoyed helping with the Shared Table at Grace Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert Clapp, in 2000; a son, Stuart; a daughter, Debbie; two brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include her daughter Reba Brown and her husband, Philip, of Longview; her son Steve Kestrel and his wife, Cindi, of Fort Collins, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 23, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mary Taken officiating.
Interment will follow in Monte Vista Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
