Florence A. Frazier Obituary
Mrs. Florence Ann Frazier, 77, passed away at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010. At the time of her passing to the Lord, Mrs. Frazier was surrounded by her loving family.
Florence Frazier was born in Los Angeles, Calif., on Sept. 22, 1932, and moved to Alamogordo in 1948. In 1949 she met Frank Frazier, who was a sergeant stationed at Holloman Air Force Base, at a July 4 picnic at White Sands. They married on Oct. 17, 1949, and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. The Fraziers have resided in the family home on Hendrix Avenue for 51 years.
Mrs. Frazier was a homemaker but also worked at the Medical Arts Pharmacy and was a manager of Mr. Swiss ice cream parlor. For 10 years she operated a popular children's day care center out of the family home. Mrs. Frazier was also a member of the Junior Women's Club in the late 1960s. While a member of that organization, Mrs. Frazier annually ran the Junior Women's Club Otero County Fair booth with the goal of raising money for local college scholarships.
Florence was a talented seamstress and cook. She also enjoyed collecting vintage tea cup sets, especially from England and Ireland. Mrs. Frazier also enjoyed the many auto trips she and Frank took to Laughlin and Las Vegas. During one of those visits she was thrilled to meet her favorite movie star, Debbie Reynolds. She also received a hug from Frankie Avalon during another such vacation.
Florence Frazier will be fondly remembered for her sense of humor, fun-loving nature and unwavering love and support for her family. Mrs. Frazier was a strong, steady woman who was very brave, particularly during her battles with cancer. She gladly helped anyone in need but rarely asked anything of anyone. Mrs. Frazier was content in life and very much enjoyed simple pleasures. And she was very proud of the accomplishments of her husband and children, all of whom attended college. Florence will be sorely missed by all who knew this remarkable and precious wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Mrs. Frazier is survived by her husband, Frank, of the family home. She is also survived by four children, Beverly Haggard, of Hatch, N.M.; Kenneth Frazier (Lisa), of Albuquerque, N.M.; Dr. Donald Frazier, of Tularosa, N.M.; (Debbie) and Marlene Fischer (and son-in-law Gerry), of Las Vegas, Nev. Survivors also include a granddaughter, Michelle Vessel (Mike) and great-grandsons Aidan and Brennan, of Huntsville, Ala.; three grandsons, Casey Haggard and Andrew Haggard, of Las Cruces, N.M., and Joel Frazier, of Albuquerque, N.M.; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Preshaw, of Vancouver, Wash. Mrs. Frazier is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
She is also survived by her lifelong best friend, Carla Vaughn, of Monrovia, Calif. Florence also was survived by her great friends and travel pals, Rosie and Roy Holmes.
Mrs. Frazier was a member of the "Lunch Bunch," a group of good friends (Edna, Millie, Trudy) who met monthly at local restaurants for over 20 years.
Mrs. Frazier was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Doris Preshaw (Alamogordo, N.M.); a sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Boyd Siroky (Little Rock, Calif.); a brother, Earl Preshaw (Vancouver, Wash.); and a son-in-law, Gary Haggard (Hatch, N.M.).
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, at 1 p.m. at the Hamilton-O'Dell chapel with Chuck Moon officiating. Interment will take place at Monte Vista Cemetery immediately following the memorial service.
The family will greet friends prior to the service at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
