Florence Alice Kolb Obituary
Florence Alice Kolb, passed away March 8, 2017 in Alexandria, VA. She was the eldest child of Marvin and Mabel Dutton. She was born August 22, 1928 in Strool, SD.

She graduated as Valedictorian from Lemmon High School class of 1945. She attended Northern State Teachers College at Aberdeen, SD and Black Hills Teachers College at Spearfish, SD. Florence taught grades 1-8 in Perkins County Schools for 4 years in a one room country school house on the Prairie.

Florence married Arnold Kolb, June 26, 1948, and began working for the Bank of Lemmon, SD as the head teller. Florence and Arnold moved to Spearfish, SD, in 1958, purchasing the fixed base operation at Spearfish Airport, How Kola Flying Service, renaming it Black Hills Aviation. Florence and Arnold owned and operated Black Hills Aviation from 1958 until their retirement in 1993. They relocated the business to Alamogordo, NM in 1972, due to Interstate 90 expansion near Spearfish airport.

As an active woman in business, Florence was named to Who's Who of American Women and Women in Business-North American Edition, and Notable Americans of the Bicentennial Era. She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi in Spearfish, SD and in Alamogordo, NM. She advanced to the Master Gamma level of achievement and received the Order of the Rose for 15 years of service, and the Silver Circle distinction for 25 years of service. She was a vital member of the Preceptor Chi chapter, serving in all chapter and City Council offices as well as member adviser for Ritual Chapters. She was honored as Girl of the Year and Valentine Sweetheart numerous times. In 1999 she was awarded the International Award of Distinction from the Beta Sigma Phi International office. She was an active member of PEO Sisterhood in Alamogordo, and Alamogordo Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Alamogordo NM, where she served on the board of trustees, the endowment committee, and finance board; a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Alamogordo, and an active member of Spearfish United Methodist Church in Spearfish, SD during the summer months while living in SD.

Florence served as an elected member by the board of Governors to the International Platform Assoc., a non partisan organization of distinguished and dedicated persons from 55 nations, to address national and international problems with the objective of improving the American Platform.

Florence loved to cook, sew, dance, garden, and entertain. She loved music, and could play the piano, the organ, the banjo, and the accordion. She could make a 15 minute coffee break seem like a party. She was hard-working and generous with others. She had a tremendous love and commitment to family and an unshakable faith in her God.

She is survived by daughters Maurity Autrey (Gene) of San Antonio, TX; Pam Parker (Randy), of Alexandria, VA; Theone Oliver (GB III), of La Luz, NM, and Kim Mattson of La Luz, NM;by 6 grandchildren, Sheryll Farrell (Kenny); Jean Pritchett (Michael); Haley Parker, Nathan Parker; GB Oliver IV (Jamie), Summer Boyd (Seth), and 7 great grandchildren, Nikolas Farrell, Kennedy Farrell, Sean Pritchett, GB Oliver V, Nora Rose Oliver, Charlotte Joy Oliver, and Emmie Boyd.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, and two sons, Sterling and Nathan.

The memorial service will be Friday, May 5, at 2:00 p.m at Alamogordo Funeral Home with Rev. Zach Bechtold officiating.
