Florence "Irene" Dilts

Obituary Condolences

Services Wednesday
On Jan. 20, 2008, my mother Irene Dilts quietly passed from this world into the arms of her heavenly Father. She was born in Oil City, La. Oct. 10, 1917.
She and her brothers were raised by her grandparents in Vivian, La. She met and married my daddy, Jewel Brackman, on May 18, 1936, in Texarkana, Texas, where they lived and worked the family farm for several years. For more than 60 years, my parents lived in and around the Muleshoe, Texas, area. Over the years, mother worked on the farm, at City Hall and the probation office, and operated three restaurants. She also served on many civic and community organizations.
More importantly, she taught children and youth in her church about God, sang in the choir, and served in many capacities for her Lord. She always had a love for music, sewing, cooking, flowers and fishing. She has missed her little companion, "Suzette," this last year.
After she retired, she began a second career of volunteering and fishing. She willingly gave much of her time to hospitals, thrift shops, senior centers and fishing. Eight years ago, mother moved to Alamogordo to be close to her and her family. She immediately became active in her church, Bethel Baptist, the hospital auxiliary and the Alamogordo Senior Center. She made countless, wonderful friends here.
My mother experienced and accomplished many things in the course of 90 years, but these are a few of the things that I will remember the most: my mother never met a stranger; was always for the underdog; and gave generously to others no matter how little she had. She endured many hardships and losses, but her courageous and loving spirit carried her through. She was very loved and will be missed by her family and friends. Thank you, mother, for leaving me such a rich legacy.
- Jewellene Scoggin
