Florence S. "Flo" Jackson

Obituary Condolences

Loving wife and mother
Florence Jackson, a longtime resident of Alamogordo, arrived in heaven Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009. Flo, as she preferred to be called, is remembered by many and loved by all who knew her. She was born in Salt Lake City on April 28, 1939, and was reared by foster parents Adrian and Gardinea Stam. She honored them as her own mother and father.
Flo's early years were involved in helping to care for other children who were being cared for by her foster parents. She was changing diapers on other children when she was just a child herself. Her entire life was devoted to caring for others. She took a friend, whom she once worked with, under her wing and assisted her for 30 years, helping her through heart attacks, cancer, lung problems plus amputation of both legs. She also cared for the lady's son since there was no one else to do it. Flo did these things for other people although she herself had a heart attack and lung problems. She never had a bad word to say about anyone, and everyone who came in contact with her loved her.
Flo was employed by Gerald Champion hospital for 20 years in the laboratory. She was admired for her expertise and compassion in her duties, consisting of drawing blood from patients. She often spent some time with patients in the hospital who were dying and had no visitors. Flo received many "Caring" certificates from hospital management over the years. She took in her husband's father during his last years and gave him a loving and welcome home. She also took in her foster mother for the last years of her life and gave her a loving and peaceful home until she passed on.
Flo married Clarence "Jack" Jackson in 1958 and they were blessed with three children, Florence Gayle, Jack Andrew and Cindy Karen. Jack already had three children whose mother had died, Shirley Lynn, Ava Jeanette and Donna Clarice, from a former marriage. Clarice was only 2 years old. Flo devoted her life to raising six wonderful children without any favoritism whatsoever. She loved them all equally and her love was returned by all of them. She lost Lynn in March 2007 due to cancer. Flo also loved animals of all kinds, especially her three Yorkies and her golden retriever.
Flo is survived by her husband, Clarence. Flo and Clarence celebrated 50 years of love for each other recently as they celebrated their 50th anniversary. Flo is also survived by her children Florence Gayle Beasley, Jack Andrew Jackson and wife, Kathi, and Cindy Karen Wallace and husband, Ken; her stepchildren Ava Jeanette Shaw and husband, Henry, and Donna Clarice Francis and husband, R.C.; her foster sister Mary Swollom; and foster brother Raymond Stam. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her foster parents, her biological mother, her stepdaughter Lynn Watson, her foster brother Robert Stam and her longtime friend and fishing companion Karyl Smith. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.
Flo was a member of Cottonwood Christian Fellowship Church. Her strong faith in Jesus Christ was an inspiration and example to her children and grandchildren. Heartfelt thanks go out to the devoted staff of Alamogordo Home Care Hospice.
Funeral services are under the direction of Alamogordo Funeral Home. Flo chose to be cremated and her remains be buried in a plot adjacent to her husband. A memorial to celebrate Flo's life will be Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at 10 a.m. conducted by Pastor Robert Smith at Cottonwood Christian Fellowship located at 7035 U.S. Highway 54/70, north of Alamogordo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Cottonwood Christian Fellowship Church.
The Jackson family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral arrangements. Cremation will take place locally at PCS.
