Florine Rowland Obituary
Florine Rowland, 87, passed away Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, in Alamogordo.
Florine (Mimi) Rowland was born in Goldthwaite, Texas, in 1922. She moved to Alamogordo in 1945, where she met and married Albert Rowland in 1947. They had two sons, Jim and Lee Rowland; five grandchildren, Crystal Lea, Ashly Lyn, Austin Neil, Lee James and Jon Albert; and three great-grandchildren, Jordan, Mia and Jon.
Florine and Albert owned and operated a Texaco station, located on the site where Blake's Lotaburger currently stands, until 1958. Albert went to work for civil engineering at Holloman Air Force Base and Florine went to work for the Alamogordo Public School system as the cafeteria manager at Sierra Elementary School. She managed the cafeteria at Sierra until her retirement in the 1970s.
During her time at Sierra, she helped start the first enchilada dinners to help raise money for various school programs. After retirement, Florine and Albert were very active in the Good Sam's Club of Alamogordo and took their grandchildren with them traveling whenever possible. They were active members of Grace United Methodist Church.
Florine was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Rowland, and her granddaughter Ashly Lyn Rowland.
She will be terribly missed.
Memorial services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, at Grace United Methodist Church in Alamogordo.
Inurnment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.
The Rowland family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place locally at PCS.
