Frances Hope Phillips Obituary
Frances Hope Phillips, 89, went home to our Lord and her beloved husband, Kevy, on Monday, March 8, 2010.
Frances was born March 1, 1921, to Ralph and Elfida Paz Parra in Lincoln, Neb.
She attended Lincoln High School and worked at Smith's Bakery and in the defense industry in Lincoln. There Frances met and married the love of her life, Kevin Lyle Phillips. Early in their marriage Frances lost her mother and she and Kevy helped to raise her younger siblings, Val and Nato. Kevin and Frances were blessed with three children of their own, Michael, Linda and William. They raised their children lovingly in Nebraska while enjoying family vacations, a cabin in Cedar Creek, Neb., and always spending time with friends and family.
After retiring they moved to Otero County in New Mexico. Since Kevin's passing in 2008 Frances has been cared for by the staff of Good Samaritan Center Betty Dare in Alamogordo. Guided by her strong faith in our Lord, Frances was a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, rarely using recipes, sewing for others and baking and decorating cakes for special occasions. She and Kevin shared their love of Nebraska football with family and friends throughout their lives. She lived a life of faith, hope and charity and will be remembered as a "character" and our Miracle Momma.
Frances was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kevy; her parents; her brothers Victor, Raymond and Reynaldo; and her sisters Maria, Virginia and Elvira.
She is survived by her children Michael (Shane), of Alamogordo, Linda, of Ramona, Calif., William (Jan), of North Platte, Neb., and her son-in-law Kelly Dodson, of Ramona; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters Marie (Joe) Swanson, of Lincoln, Neb., and Val (Fred) Gutierrez, of Alamogordo; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law William (Marge) Phillips, of Hastings, Neb., Rose Maureen (Louis) Brannon, of Marietta, Ga., and Betty Parra, of Lincoln, Neb.; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends, especially Johnny and Vicki Vallejos.
Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Monday, March 15, 2010, at Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church in La Luz by Deacon Don Dickman. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. following the rosary at the church with Father Bruce Hausfeld, O.F.M., as celebrant.
Should friends desire, contributions may be made to Alamogordo Home Care and Hospice, 1859 Indian Wells Road in Alamogordo or to Good Samaritan Society-Betty Dare, 3101 N. Florida Ave. in Alamogordo.
The Phillips family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place locally at PCS.
