Fred had a great passion for life and his work with law enforcement. He served as a police officer in Artesia, Hobbs, Clovis and Alamogordo. Bringing him new passion and joy was his work as youth minister for New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Margaret Biggs, and a granddaughter, Victory Lieb.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Biggs, of Alamogordo, and daughters Stacey Weatherford; Chenay Hernandez and her husband, Joel; and Heather Lieb and her husband, Aaron, all of Artesia. He is also survived by his sisters Rebecca Novotny and her husband, Ken, of Denver, and Carolyn Gillion and fiance, Joe Vandermee, of Roswell; a brother, Bill Biggs and his wife, Jeanette, of Yucapia, Calif.; grandchildren Amber Compton, Kara Wells, Jacob Swanson, Samuel VanAtta, Jacob Hernandez, Issac Hernandez, Zachary Weatherford, Quinlee Weatherford and Jedediah Lieb; one great-grandchild, Kinsey Wells; nephews Dakota Bell, of Alaska, David Wahrlich, of Colorado, and Wayland Biggs, of California; and nieces Maryann Garcia, of Alaska, Meagan Gillion, of New Mexico, and Amity Fogle, of California. Fred was "Uncle Derf" to Erika Kerestes and Dustin Vandermee, of Albuquerque, 12 great nieces and nephews, four cousins, two aunts and an uncle.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, at New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Tom Farley officiating.
Should friends desire, contributions may be made to the youth fund at New Beginnings Church of the Nazarene, 817 Scenic Drive, Alamogordo, NM 88310.
The Biggs family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place locally at PCS.
