Gary Allan Burns, 62
Retired master sergeant, U.S. Air Force
Gary Allan Burns, 62, of La Luz, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, at his home.
He was born Feb. 18, 1948, in St. Paul, Minn., and adopted when he was 18 months old by Murray and Verona (Tetzlaff) Burns. Gary married Judy A. Ulshafer on Jan. 6, 1973, in Duluth, Minn. He served during Vietnam War in the Air Force and retired after 24 years of service as a master sergeant. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 7686, a member of the Moose Lodge and Fraternal Order of the Eagles Airie 4101. He enjoyed playing darts at the Moose Lodge and crossword puzzles. He most enjoyed donating his time and energy to helping others.
He is survived by his wife, Judy A. Burns; two daughters, Melanie Mobley and husband, John, of Monterey, Calif., and Christine Oyler and husband, Jeff, of La Luz; grandchildren William, Sarah and Erin Mobley, of Monterey, and Brennan Oyler, of La Luz; and his many friends in Alamogordo and La Luz.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Fraternal Order of Eagles Airie 4101, 471 24th St., Alamogordo, with Fred Gutierrez officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Holloman Air Force Base Steel Talons Honor Guard.
The Burns family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place locally at PCS.
