George H. Roberson

1927 - 2008 Obituary Condolences
George H. Roberson received his eternal reward when the Lord called him home on July 24, 2008, in Alamogordo. The long battle with cancer did not diminish George's outlook on life. He faced it with quiet dignity and shared his sweet smile without fail. His courage and faith in God allowed him to say, "…Death is swallowed up in victory," knowing he had much more to look forward to beyond this brief time.
This beloved father, grandfather and friend was born to George W. Roberson and Dorothy Ann Green Roberson on April 27, 1927, in Bozeman, Mont. He grew up on a ranch in Galatin County on the Sixteen Mile Canyon near White Sulpher Springs.
Over his lifetime he found great enjoyment in exploring the great outdoors, hunting and fishing, traveling, and being involved in varied hobbies. He was an avid reader, and taught himself many skills. His passion was flying, and he obtained his pilot's license at a young age. He also considered it an honor and privilege to have served his country as a U.S. Navy Boatswain's Mate during and after World War II. He worked for 40 years as a brakeman and conductor for the Northern Pacific Railroad that eventually became the Burlington Northern Railroad in Montana. But most notably, the richness during his 81 years was derived from the memorable times spent with his devoted family and friends.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Meyers Roberson, in 1991; his parents; many sisters and one brother.
He leaves behind two sons, Dan Roberson, of Big Fork, Mont., wife, Jan, and their children, Caitlin and Nathaniel; his second son, Patrick Roberson, and wife, Carla, of Livermore, Calif.; a daughter, Cindy Roberson Lopez, and husband, Carlos Lopez, of Alamogordo; three step-grandchildren, James Lopez and his wife, Camille, and their son, Xavier, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Merry Flores and her husband, Fonz,i and their son, Austin, of Alamogordo, and Bonnie and Mathew Barnwell, and their daughter, Julianna, of Alamogordo. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In keeping with his wishes, George Roberson will be laid to rest in his home state of Montana. A private memorial service will take place in Alamogordo at a future date.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the excellent staffs of Betty Dare Good Samaritan Center and Alamogordo Hospice. The genuine care, compassion and respect that was shown provided great comfort to George and his loved ones.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Hamilton O'Dell Funeral Home.
