Obituary Condolences

George Joseph Clapper, 78, of Alamogordo, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2008, in Alamogordo after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born November 8, 1929 in Holden, Mass. to George and Dolores Bertrand Clapper. He was raised in West Springfield, MA. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy when he was seventeen and was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in World War II and Korea where he was with the VP2 where he flew the Patrol Squadron Two out of Whidby Island, Wash., Point Magu, Calif., Kodiak Island, Ark., Okinawa Japan and Norfolk, Va. He was extremely patriotic all of his life.
He was machinist with Boeing and retired from McDonald Douglas Aircraft. Upon retirement, he traveled extensively and was a member of several RV Clubs. He was a life member of the VFW, member of the Moose Lodge and the BPOE Elks Lodge. For many years, he was a member of the VP2 Association. He always told jokes. His humor got him and those around him through some tough times. He was an artist and taught himself to play the Q Chord. He loved music and dancing.
He is survived by Peggy Stiegel of the family home; a son Bert F. Clapper and his wife, Rae and the mother of his son, Rose Clapper all of Lakewood, Calif.; two grandchildren, Brandy Clapper of Lakewood and Brandon Clapper of Colo.; one great-grandson; a brother, Victor Clapper of Westfield, Mass.; sister, Gloria Bradish of Battle Creek, Mich.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bertrand J. Clapper and Richard Clapper.
A Celebration of His Life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2008, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel with Don Whiteside officiating.
A reception will be held at the Moose Lodge following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society or the V.F.W.
Cremation will take place locally at PCS.
The Clapper family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral arrangements.
