Georgie Elizabeth Cadwallader

Obituary Condolences

Georgie Elizabeth Cadwallader passed away in her Mountain Park home at sunrise, Thursday morning, Feb. 5, 2009. She was 86.
Mrs. Cadwallader was born Georgie Monk on May 26, 1922, in El Paso, Texas. She was the daughter of Fred and Gulielma Monk. She graduated from Ysleta High School and attended the Texas State School of Mines and Metallurgy, now known as the University of Texas at El Paso. Georgie always had a love for horses. She was an accomplished horsewoman who continued riding well into her 70s. In her early 20s, she toured as a professional trick rider with the well known Monty Montana. She later met her future husband, Jon Cadwallader, at the old Mountain Park Store in 1946, where her parents were the proprietors. She married Jon in 1954 and they made their home in Mountain Park on the fruit farm established by Jon's grandfather, E.F. Cadwallader in 1902. They raised sweet cherries, apples and horses. They enjoyed 41 years of marriage until Jon's death in 1995. Besides her love of and dedication to her family, she loved the mountains and loved her Lord, Jesus Christ. She was a devoted member of Trinity Baptist Church in High Rolls and was well known for her gracious smile and her hearty hugs. She will be missed by all who knew her, and her impact on the many people whose lives she touched will continue on. She was a tiny lady of short stature, but her gracious heart and love for people made her a giant in her community.
She is survived by her two sons, Mark and his wife Lois of Mountain Park, and Curt and his wife Vivian of Tularosa; a brother Norman Monk of Lubbock, Texas; and two granddaughters, Kimberly and Victoria of Mountain Park.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel, lead by her pastor, Billy Tucker.
Burial will follow at the James Canyon Cemetery, east of Cloudcroft.
Pallbearers will be Monty Penn, Steve Fambrough, James Cadwallader, Jim Wilkey, Steve McElheny, Don Draney, Ralph Langley and Jeff Glaze.
Visitation will be held on Monday evening, Feb. 9, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Alamogordo Funeral Home.
Donations may be made in her memory to Alamogordo Home Care and Hospice, P.O. Drawer 29, 1859 Indian Wells Rd., Alamogordo, N.M. 88310
The Cadwallader family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
