Gerald M. Weis Obituary
Gerard M. "Jerry" Weis, 57, of Alamogordo, passed away Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, in Alamogordo. He was born Aug. 13, 1955, in Johnson, Kan., to Joseph Ralph and Gee Donna M. (McPherson) Weis.
He married Michaelle C. Weis on June 18, 1977, in Vacaville, Calif. They moved to Alamogordo in 1983. He was an active member of St. Jude Mission. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1997. During his last years in the U.S. Air Force, he bought Way of Japan School of Karate, as well as doing nightly work for Alamo Security.
In 1964 was the year his martial arts career began and he never let it go. Aug. 13, 2012, marked his 48th year in the marital arts. During those 48 years, he attained a brown belt in judo, a green belt in aikido and ju jitsu, fifth-degree in loa ki laos kung fu (circle of masters) and, finally, a fourth-degree shotokan karate. He practiced every day at Complete Martial Arts in Alamogordo.
He is survived by three sons, Joseph R. Weis III, of Ulysses, Kan., and Christopher G. Weis and John R. Weis, of Alamogordo; his adopted son Keith Turner; brothers Joseph Weis Jr. and wife, Shirley, of Ulysses, James Weis and wife, Rosie, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Tony Burgess, of Alamogordo; sisters Margaret Witsken and husband, Paul, of Dodge City, Kan., Anita Weis, of Colorado Springs, and Toni L. Lehman and husband, George, of Vacaville; grandson Kenneth Joseph Weis and granddaughter Cheyanne Marie Weis, both of Kansas City, Mo.; seven nephews; 11 nieces; 21 great-nephews; 17 great-nieces; and five great-great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Michaelle C. Weis; daughter Angela C. Weis; two sisters, Ruth Burgess and Joey Sanders and husband, Robert; and brother John Weis.
The family will greet friends at 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, at Alamogordo Funeral Home.
Vigil with the rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, at the funeral home by the Alter Rosary Society. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, at St. Jude Parish with Father Wayne Herpin as celebrant.
Should friends desire, contributions may be made at any branch of First National Bank under the account of "Christopher Weis for the benefit of Complete Martial Arts" in lieu of flowers.
The Weis family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
