Obituary Condolences

Terry Clarke passed away Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011, in Las Cruces. He was born June 17, 1929, in New Kensington, Pa., to Nelli and Gerald S. Clarke Sr.
Mr. Clarke served in the U.S. Air Force and was discharged at Holloman Air Force Base in December 1954. While stationed at Holloman, he began working at 1230 KALG radio as an announcer. During the next 23 years, he continued to work in broadcasting in various positions, including as owner of KALG and contributor for ABC and KOAT-TV in Albuquerque.
From 1974 to 1976, Terry served as the congressional regional representative for Congressman Harold Reynolds in Hobbs. He returned to Alamogordo in 1976 to continue his work with Terry Clarke News Agency, covering south central New Mexico, west Texas and with frequent trips to Juarez.
Terry enjoyed dancing and live music, and played the piano or organ at various times for local entertainment. He was well known for his in-depth knowledge of current events, his caring manner, quick wit and sense of humor.
Terry will be remembered, as this era comes to an end, as the man who chased the news for you.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelli and Gerald Clarke; an infant twin brother, Allen Clarke; and his longtime (20 years) female companion, Maria Divet.
He is survived by his first wife of 23 years, Mary Debbie Clarke Smith, as well as many friends and acquaintances.
A memorial service/celebration of life will be conducted at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
The care of Mr. Clarke has been entrusted to Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home. Cremation will take place at PCS.
