Obituary Condolences

Gladys Sutton, former resident, passed away Aug. 21, 2008, at Lakeview Christian Home in Carlsbad. Gladys was born Jan. 24, 1909, in Lakewood to Ruben Chester and Martha Jane (Babb) Wood. She attended school in a one-room school near Mayhill. Gladys started high school in Weed and graduated from Cloudcroft High School. She owned the Sunshine Café in Cloudcroft and later moved to Alamogordo for several years.
Gladys married Woodrow Sutton Sept. 14, 1936, in Alamogordo. The couple moved to Carlsbad in 1940 where Woody went to work for P.C.A. Gladys was a member of First Baptist Church over 60 years. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and singing. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Woodrow "Woody" Sutton; two brothers; one sister; one granddaughter and one grandson.
She is survived by her daughter, Jane Mangion and her husband, Gary, of Mesa, Ariz., and one grandson, Tony Mangino, of San Antonio, Texas.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home, 1001 N. Canal Street in Carlsbad.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Kevin Pence officiating.
Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery in Carlsbad.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
