Gloria was called home to our Lord on Nov. 25, 2013. She was born on Jan. 29, 1949, to Raymond and Concepcion "Nena" Duran. She was a lifelong Tularosa resident and active member of St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church.
She worked 35 years for Otero County courthouse, in which she retired in her final role as Indigent Fund Coordinator. She was a devoted wife of nearly 39 yrs, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin.
She served in numerous roles as a volunteer around the community: Early on Gloria served for many years as the Fiesta dance instructor. At one point, Gloria served as a Mayordomo/Fiesta Manager for the St. Francis de Paula Annual Fiesta for 12 consecutive years and continued to assist for years to follow. She played an active role in the acquisition of the Sacred Heart Cemetery. She also ran youth basketball with her husband Robert and served as Little League Baseball President and Regional Representative. She was currently residing in a seat as a Board Trustee for the Village of Tularosa.
Gloria was a strong woman full of conviction and passion in all she did. Gloria was the cornerstone of her family and strived to do everything she could to provide for her family. She had a strong desire to live each day to the fullest and not worry of what tomorrow might bring; Un Dia ala Vez!
She is survived by her husband, Robert; daughter Cynthia and husband, Perfecto Provencio; sons Robert "Chonies" Sainz and Ray and wife, Ashley Sainz; grandchildren Amanda and partner, Nate Ruiz, Darling, Perfecto, Isaiah, Elias, Marcus, Mareah and Elyse; great-grandchildren Anjelica, Audreanna and Angelina; her mother, siblings Mary Guilez, Frank Duran and Gina and husband, Louie Kowatch; sister-in-law Naomi Kaydahzinne and numerous godchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, sister Josie and husband, Matias Chavez, and brother Max Duran.
Pall Bearers are Frankie Duran, Nash Kowatch, Matthew Chavez, Matt Voorbach, Chance Coates, Ryan Blazer, Miguel "RJ" Baca and Thomas Mendez.
Rosary is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27 and will be led by nephew Steve and wife, Liz Chavez, with a Celebration of Life Mass to follow at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in Tularosa. A reception at Tularosa Community Center will follow her burial.
The Sainz family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
