Gordon L. Blanchard, Sr. Obituary

Gordon L. Blanchard Sr. passed away Sept. 19, 2014, in Las Cruces surrounded by family. He was born on July 1, 1925, in DeQueen, Ark., to Charles H. Blanchard and Flossie Thelma Jones.

Gordon was a long-time rancher and cowboy who owned and operated Continental Oil Co. and Conoco service stations in Alamogordo for many years. He was a fighter pilot in the Navy during World War II. Gordon was an avid hunter and fisherman who raised and trained horses all of his life.

Gordon is survived by his wife of the family home Margaret (Peggy) Westrom; his sons Gordon (Robin) Blanchard of Aztec, Bruce Blanchard of Anthony, Wayne (Pam) Blanchard of Broken Arrow, Okla., Dean Terrell of Alamogordo, Dale (Lynn) Westrom of Alamosa, Colo., and daughter Diane (Mike) Mock of Palmetto, Ga. He is also survived by one sister, Dorothy Butts of Fresno, Calif.; grandchildren Jayson Blanchard, Mark Blanchard, Chelsea Colombari, Joshua Eisler, Shane Eisler, Gabriel Eisler and David Westrom; a special great-granddaughter Mariah Eisler and great-grandchildren Ella, Owen and Macy Eisler, Gracee and Oakley Eisler, Desiree, Darcie, Dylan and Douglas Westrom, Gabriel and Natalia Colombari.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters and son Darrel Westrom.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014, at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home Chapel, 1334 Scenic Drive, Alamogordo.
Family and friends are welcome at Blanchard Horse Farm, 92 Beecher Road, Alamogordo, following the service.
