Major, U.S.A.F., Ret.
Gouverneur Burton "Burt" Skinner, 84, passed away on March 1, 2016, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He was born on July 19, 1931, in Big Horn, Wyoming to Gouverneur and Modine (Witt) Skinner.

Major Skinner served almost 23 years in the Unites States Air Force retiring in 1974. He was active in Sacramento Lodge #24, A.F.&A.M. and Alamo Chapter #11, Order of Eastern Star and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Alamogordo for many years before becoming a member of University United Methodist Church in Las Cruces in 2014.

Burt and his wife Patt, moved to Good Samaritan Society Village in Las Cruces after living in Alamogordo for over 50 years. They were married March 28, 2009 and enjoyed their short time together. Their blended families members, too numerous to list were their pride and joy. Burt was beloved by each and every child, grandchild and great grandchild.
After retiring Burt spent many hours in his wood shop, enjoying hunting and fishing, traveling and swapping stories with almost anyone about his air force experiences.

Survivors include his wife, Patt Skinner of the family home; his son, Craig (Liz) Skinner of Carson City, Nev.; three daughters, Debbie (Michael) Skinner Zagone of Albuquerque, N.M., Linda (Dave) Marshall of Nacogdoches, Texas and Sandra (Curtis) Harding of Etoile, Texas; two step-daughters, Susan (Barry) Thorp of Alamogordo, N.M., and Cindy (Ken) Rogers of Alamogordo, N.M.; three step-sons, Brian Beisswingert of Tucson, Ariz., Leonard (Tina) Beisswingert of Woodland, Calif., and Randy (Peggy) Rhue of Clovis, N.M., and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Chloe Stevens Skinner, his son Bruce Skinner, his grandson Justin Shank and his parents.

The memorial service for Burt Skinner will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, March 7, 2016, at Grace United Methodist Church with Reverend Pam Rowley and Reverend Dustin Wilhite officiating.

In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 1206 Greenwood Lane, Alamogordo, NM 88310 or Fox Hole Homes, 3431 Shenandoah Place, Alamogordo, NM 88310, building homes for homeless Vets.

The Skinner family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
