Chela as many people knew her, passed away on August 2, 2016, in Alamogordo, N.M. She was born on Nov. 23, 1958, to Manuel Gomez and Casimira Nieto, in Saucillo, Chihuahua, Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her father Manuel Gomez, mother Casimira Gomez, sister Socorro, brother Rafael, and grandson Aryan.

Survivors include her children: Eduardo Duarte and Stephanie of Alamogordo, Jessica Cooper and husband Kenneth, of Las Cruces, and Ramon Duarte of Alamogordo. Her childhood friend and companion Miguel Duarte and their 13 grandchildren, and her "comadre"/caretaker, Maria Sarinaña of three years. She is also survived by her siblings Antonio Gomez, Jose Gomez and Oscar Gomez of Juarez, Mexico, Manuel Gomez of Westway, Texas, Amparo Sifuentes, Mario Gomez of Alamogordo, and Lupe Gomez of El Paso, Texas, and including many nieces and nephews.

Chela was a very giving, nurturing and loving person. She is remembered by many as a very selfless person who would strive at anything to make anyone feel welcomed and always placed a higher premium on the value of life.
At a very young age, she left schooling as she helped her mother to care for the home, and her siblings. She learned every task of keeping a home and serving others as she matured and truly earned factotum. Moving to Alamogordo in the early 80's to raise her family, she worked for some time at Jack Wheeler as a master seamstress. Chela eventually took to enjoy her passion for cooking as she worked at Juans Cactus Café, and also for Mrs. Pappas at the Tastee Freeze. She assisted to help her son as he ventured such eateries as Tortillas To Go, La Hacienda restaurant when it was established in 2004, then on to Eddies Burritos in 2007. Chela also enjoyed knitting, arts and crafts, and decorating as a hobby.

The Rosary for Graciela Gomez will be at 9:00 a.m., Monday, August 8, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church followed by Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.

The Gomez family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
