Guy C. "Big Guy" Pannell

Obituary Condolences

"Big Guy, Father, PaPa, and Dear Friend"
The Go To Guy
Guy "Big Guy" Clifford Earl Pannell passed away all too soon, suddenly Monday afternoon on July 27, 2009.
Guy was born on July 2, 1943, in Bellville, Ontario, Canada, to Guy and Isabel Pannell.
"Big Guy," as he was known, owned and operated Big Guy's Auto Sales in Alamogordo. Guy grew up in Trenton, Ontario, and Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. Guy had many talents and was a very intelligent, successful businessman. Guy starting out as a barber at the tender age of 16 then went into hotel management for the Red Deer Inn in Canada. Guy moved with his family to the United States beginning in Las Vegas, Nev., in 1980, where he stayed shortly before moving to Clovis, where he built and owned a chicken restaurant calling it 6O's Chicken & More. Guy ran his own chicken restaurant for seven years before moving to Alamogordo. There he owned and operated Big Guy's Auto Sales until the day of his passing with longtime friends John Roberts and Roger Groce. Big Guy's Auto Sales was Guy's life, being the hardest worker you would have ever met, taking one day off a week, and closed only for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Guy became an elder in August 1977 to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Guy is survived by his loving mother Isabel Pannell, of Trenton, Ontario, Canada, and one sister, Darla Pannell, of British Columbia, Canada.
Guy is the father of eight children, Guy Pannell Jr., of Alamogordo; Carrie Schuler and husband, Mike, of Calgary, Canada; Karlo Pannell and wife, Carmen, of San Antonio, Texas; Marlo Thorne and Matt, of Alamogordo; Darro Pannell and wife, Laura, of Alamogordo; Gerro Pannell and wife, Amanda, of Alamogordo; Milano Beltran and husband, Michael, of Alamogordo; and Margo Pannell-Montoya and husband, Carlos, of Alamogordo.
Guy has 17 grandchildren who will all miss their PaPa dearly. We'll miss your smile, your presence, and your laugh. You will forever be in our hearts. We'll miss you, Daddy!
A memorial service will be held at Alamogordo Funeral Home for friends and family on Friday, July 31, 2009, at 12 p.m.

If Tears Could Build a Stairway
If tears could build a stairway
And memories were a lane
We would walk right up to Heaven
And bring you back again
No farewell words were spoken
No time to say goodbye
You were gone before we knew it
And only God knows why
Our hearts still ache in sadness
And secret tears still flow
What it meant to lose you
No one will ever know
But now we know you want us
To mourn for you no more
To remember all the happy times
Life still has much in store
Since you'll never be forgotten
We pledge to you today
A hallowed place within our hearts
Is where you'll always stay
