Harold P. "Harry" Wheeler Obituary
Harold P. "Harry" Wheeler was born on Feb. 8, 1920, in Boliver, N.Y. to mother Nina Mae Smith and father Francis Fredrick Wheeler.
He passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at his son's home in Grand Prairie, Texas.
He is survived by his son Clay R. Wheeler, of Grand Prairie and grandchildren Emily Lael Wheeler, Benjamin Eli Wheeler and Nathan Uriah Wheeler (Douglas' children).
He was preceded in death by his wife Clara Jeanette Wheeler and his son, Douglas Scott Wheeler.
Harry served 25 years in the in the United States Air Force in both World War II and the Korean War as a pilot assigned to flight instruction in both fixed wing and helicopter aircraft. He also specialized in helicopter rescue and flight line fire fighting. He retired as a major in 1964. He then served an additional 20 years as a pilot for the civil service at Holloman Air Force Base and White Sands Missile Range.
Harry was an avid golfer and played regularly until the age of 88. He was a full throttle guy as long as his body would carry him. He moved to Grand Prairie to live with his son in November 2010 after health issues left him no other choice. He lived his days out watching sports, conservative television shows and being Harry.
He had a glorious run.
Funeral services for Harry will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at Hamilton O'Dell Funeral home.
Interment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday Jan. 3, 2011, at the funeral home.
The Wheeler family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
