Obituary Condolences

Retired from Safeway
Helen M. Garrett, 86, a longtime resident of Alamogordo, passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at her home.
Mrs. Garrett was born May 1, 1921, in St. Leo, Kan., where she was raised on a farm, and later met and married Bill Garrett, the love of her life for 63 years. They later moved to New Mexico, making Alamogordo their home for 48 years. In 1984, Helen retired from Safeway stores, where she worked as a checker and stocker. Helen and Bill had very active retirement years. They were members of the Good Sam Club and enjoyed traveling and camping across the United States. They owned a "getaway" property at Cloud Country, near Cloudcroft, for a number of years. Helen loved to play cards, dominoes, and most any table or board game. She also enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, but most of all she loved life and she loved being with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Caroline (Albers) Renner; and a brother, Alfred Renner.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Garrett, of the family home; a son, Richard Garrett and his wife Sandy, of Boerne, Texas; a daughter, Sheryl Johnson and her husband Todd Van Berg, of Albuquerque; three grandchildren, Melissa Johnson, Brian Johnson and Todd Van Berg II, all of Albuquerque; three great-grandchildren, Makayla Johnson, Jordan Johnson and Briana Johnson, all of Albuquerque; a brother, Arthur Renner of Sharon Springs, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 22, at 2 p.m. in the Hamilton-O'Dell Chapel with the Rev. Chuck Moon officiating.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Alamogordo Home Care/Hospice, P.O. Box 29, Alamogordo, NM 88311.
