Obituary Condolences

Retired from Polson and Grady
Henry Burl Polson, 69, of Cloudcroft, died Saturday, June 20, 2009, in Alamogordo.
Burl was born Aug. 7, 1939, in Cloudcroft to Henry Burr and Lettye (Sweatt) Polson. He was born on Glorieta Street by a midwife and his grandmother Mary Annie Sweatt. His family were truck farmers and loggers, and he learned to work at an early age. He had his own field of cabbage to work at age 12 and he worked very hard the rest of his life. His family moved to Alamogordo in 1952. After losing his father in 1953 in a logging accident, he started to work for City Dairy candling eggs to help support his mother and baby brother. He graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1957 and married Shirley Snyder in 1958. Burl and Shirley had grown up together as their families were friends and went to western dances while Burl and Shirley slept on a quilt in the corner, when they were 2 and 3 years old. Burl went to work at Alamo Sheet Metal and learned the trade. He opened his own business, Polson Sheet Metal, which he ran for several years before forming the partnership of Polson and Grady, Ltd., general contractors, where he worked until his retirement in 2002. In 1974 Burl and Shirley moved to a ranch north of Alamogordo where they lived until their children left home. In 1990 they moved back to the mountains where they lived, traveled and enjoyed retirement. Burl was a member of Tularosa Lodge No. 49, A.F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite Bodies of Las Cruces, Ballut Abyad Shrine and the B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 1897.
