Herta "Candy" Wood Obituary
It is with heavy heart that I am sharing the passing of my beloved mother, Herta "Candy" Wood.
Herta Wood was born in Oberalm, Austria, on Aug. 31, 1927, to Johann and Katharina Reichl. Mother grew up in Austria where she went to school and immigrated to America after World War II. She passed through Ellis Island in New York, and she later gained her U.S. citizenship in Lawton, Okla. While living in Oklahoma, Herta met and married her husband, George R. Wood, of Niles, Mich., (deceased in 2011), and they were married for 57 years.
Herta was a caring and attentive wife, wonderful mother and very hard worker. A lover of animals, she used to love feeding her desert turtles and various stray dogs they adopted over the years. Mom was a wonderful homemaker and worked for many years at Casa Décor and Sheffield's Furniture.
Herta was a past Eastern Star member in Alamogordo and was active with George in his Masonic Lodge. Herta and George lived in Alamogordo since 1965. Herta moved from Alamogordo in September 2010 to live in a Memory Care community in Las Cruces.
Herta leaves behind Mark Wood, her son, and family Kathy and Whitney.
We will miss her greatly, her hard work ethic and taking care of our family and home life ...
Rest in peace as you move through your internal journey ...
And he said to him, "Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise."
