Obituary Condolences

Houston Bickham Sr. passed away on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Bickham was born on April 12, 1934, in Franklinton, La., to Osborne and Vernie (MaGee) Bickham. On April 25, 1953, he married Hilda Esco in Franklinton. They moved the family to Alamogordo in 1960. He worked many jobs to support his family and community until he opened Bickham's Used Cars in 1981.
Bickham was kind and generous man who always gave willingly of his time and money to anyone in need. He was a mentor to many people in the community. He never met a stranger. He loved to travel in his motor home and enjoyed visiting family and friends all over the country. He enjoyed family outings, family reunions and anytime he could be with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed Sunday dinners surrounded by his family and extended family.
He was known by many names in his community, "Pa Pa" Bickham to many children, and "Tex" and "Bubba" to others. By whatever name he was known by, he will be missed.
He was a member of the Corinth Baptist Church, where he served on the usher board, as well as the Alamogordo Chamber of Commerce. He was a former member of the Downtown Lions Club.
His is survived by his lovely wife of 55 years, Hilda Bickham, of the family home; seven children, Cynthia Williams and her husband, Les, of Albuquerque, Verna Hall-Banks and her husband, Ernest, and Tammy Mills and her husband, Darwin, both of Virginia, Sybil Bickham, Houston Bickham Jr. and his wife, Geri, Shanna Bickham and Darrell Bickham, all of Alamogordo; sisters Jospehine Robinson and Anna Jackson, both of Louisiana; brother William Bickham and his wife, Betty, of Alamogordo; brother-in-law, Nead Tate, and special aunt, Velma McGee, all of  Louisiana; former in-laws Terry Brown, of Alamogordo, and Robert Hall Jr., of Virginia; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one godchild and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; stepmother Edna Harvey Bickham; brother Charles Bickham and his wife, Norma; sisters Bessie Mitchell and her husband, Charles, and Catherine Tate.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at Corinth Baptist Church, 400 Delaware Ave., Alamogordo, with Pastor James E. Forney officiating. Internment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, at Alamogordo Funeral Home.
