Imogene "Jean" Monroe Obituary

Mom began the next phase of her journey at 90 years of age on September 28, 2017. Jean was born to Carl B. and Bessie Inez Dendy, April 16, 1927, in Olustee, Oklahoma. The middle child of seven brothers and sisters, she is predeceased by siblings Claude, Ed, Marie and Lulamae.

Jean and J.B. Monroe were married at Portales, New Mexico on September 1, 1946 and celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary before J.B.'s death. Children, Inez Rodgers (Les Cole), Las Cruces; Glynn Monroe (Rexlyan Brown), Alamogordo; Garry Monroe (Jackie), McCamey, TX; and Dennis Monroe (Corrina Sawyer), Alamogordo, were given a childhood that was filled with love and a legacy to uphold throughout their lives.

Jean retired from the Charles and Garland Insurance agency to care for J.B. She and J.B. spent many hours at "the lake" fishing and making life-long friends at the campground. Catfish on the patio was the main course and Jean's cooking and hospitality was well known throughout the camping community. Jean was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Order of the Eastern Star in her earlier years. Her later years were filled with line dancing at the Senior Center in Alamogordo and enjoying outings with her friends and family.

In addition to her children, Jean is survived by brothers Kenneth and Jack Dendy; grandchildren Shane Rodgers, Patricia Armstrong, Kane Monroe, Tim Monroe, Nicole Vensel, Colt Monroe and Lacey Burgess; 9 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews who were loved by her and who will miss her.
The family of Jean would like to thank the staff and family of The Aristocrat Assisted Living Facility in Alamogordo for the loving care given to her.

A celebration of life will be held October 21, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. in the Hamilton-O'Dell Chapel, 1334 N. Scenic Dr.
Mrs. Monroe's cremains will be interred in the Monte Vista Cemetery with Mr. Monroe.

Now abides Faith, Hope and Love but the greatest of these is Love. Mom, you are loved.

The Monroe family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services. To sign the online register book, please visit www.hamiltonodell.com.
