Irene N. Frillick Obituary
Irene Newsom was born Jan. 13, 1920, in Hagerman the last of 12 children of George and Evalena Newsom. Irene graduated from Hagerman High School in 1937.
In 1939, she married Hugh A. Pittman, of Cloudcroft. After the birth of their first child, Janice Lorraine, in 1939, Irene and Hugh moved to California in 1941, where their second child Hugh Thomas was born. They stayed in California until Janice was married and Tom graduated high school.
In 1960, Hugh and Irene returned to Cloudcroft, where they operated Keystone Cabins and the Cloudcroft Bowling Alley for the next 20 years.
In 1979, Hugh and Irene sold their business and moved off the mountain to Alamogordo. Hugh passed away in 1981. In 1982, Irene married longtime Cloudcroft friend Jack O. Frilick. She and Jack remained in Alamogordo until Jack's death in 1997. In 1999, Irene moved back to California to be close to her family, who had all remained in southern California.
Irene's daughter Janice lost her battle with Alzheimer's disease and went to be with the Lord last November. Irene went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 13, 2013. She was the last of the Newsom siblings to pass.
Irene is survived by son Tom; son-in-law Roger Fiddler; grandsons David and Steven Fiddler; Steve's wife, Laurinda, and their two children Erik and Kellee Fiddler.
A memorial service was held Monday, June 10, 2013, for Irene's southern California friends at Seacrest Church in Redondo Beach, Calif. A second memorial service will be held in Alamogordo at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22 for Irene's family members, and her Alamogordo and Cloudcroft friends. This service will also honor Irene's daughter Janice, as most of the Newsom relatives were unable to travel to California for Jan's memorial.
