James Arthur Melon Obituary

James A. "Jimmy" Melon, passed away peacefully on his 48th birthday, November 15, 2015, after a brief illness at Chandler Regional Hospital in Chandler, Arizona. He was born November 15, 1967, in Tularosa, New Mexico.

He graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1987. In the 1990's, he moved to Arizona and resided in the Chandler area for nearly 25 years. Jimmy was employed by Joy Global, in Chandler, Arizona for 18 years as a Diesel Mechanic II.

He is survived by immediate family members, his mother, Barbara Brusuelas of Carrizozo, brother David C. Baca and wife Maria, of Tularosa; sister Rachel Baca of Albuquerque; brother Alfred C. Baca and wife Vickie of Santa Fe; sister Veronica Baca Bernel and husband Joseph Bernel of Akron, Ohio; sister Delia Baca Ochoa and husband Oscar of San Antonio, Texas; brother Ernest Melon of Phoenix, Arizona; cousin Lupe Ash and husband Emo of Alamogordo; paternal aunt Mary Malone, of Alamogordo.
Jimmy is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins in New Mexico, Arizona and Ohio. In Arizona, he is survived by hundreds of friends who loved him and cared for him like a brother. To his many friends, Jimmy was affectionately known as "Chongo," a name that he loved and enjoyed using.

James was preceded in death by his father, Cornelius M. "Nelo" Melon; paternal grandparents, Cornelio and Maria (Macias) Melon; maternal grandparents Benito Chavez, Marcelina Gutierrez and husband Luciano Gutierrez, many aunts and uncles from the Melon/Malone family.

While we lost our beloved son and brother too soon, Jimmy lived a full life, filled with friendship, laughter, and good times with his friends and family. He was a gentle spirit, a kind person who never met a stranger. He was very caring and protective of everyone in his life. He loved his family and friends with all his heart and never hesitated to demonstrate that love. Jimmy enjoyed riding motorcycles, taking bike trips to various locations, he liked to "tinker" on his car and motorcycles at home, have fun with his brother Ernest Melon and friends in Arizona. He loved his little cat, Sheba. Jimmy had an exceptional work ethic and was awarded certificates of commendation and appreciation for his service and attendance at Joy Global over the years.

Jimmy was a wonderful, caring, son, brother, cousin, uncle and friend. We will miss the unique person that he was, his beautiful big brown eyes, his sweet smile, his mild manner, his mischievous sense of humor, and most of all his ever present love and affection for us all. He will be in our hearts and memory forever. May he rest in love and peace.
