James J. "Jim" Leach Obituary
James J. 'Jim' Leach, age 65
James J. "Jim" Leach, 65, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, in Alamogordo. He was born Sept. 15, 1945, in Aurora, Ill., to James and Della Leach. He grew up and graduated from high school in Blue Earth, Minn. Jim was retired from the Air Force where he served for 22 years. He served in the Vietnam War from December 1969 to December 1970. After retiring, he worked for various civilian contractors at Holloman Air Force Base, and most recently for Miratek International Technology Group. He loved running, playing golf, biking and rooting for his favorite teams - Notre Dame, Air Force and the Vikings. Jim also enjoyed spending time with friends and his five grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Sheryl Leach; son Jay Leach and his wife, Elis, of Centennial, Colo; grandchildren Tyler, Jared and Timothy; daughter Jackie Alvarez and her husband, Mike, of Vacaville, Calif.; and grandchildren Michele and Anthony.
Jim is also survived by his sisters Ruth Ann Schaper, of Bricelyn, Minn., Lynda Heidecker and her husband, Marvin, of Lakota, Iowa, Catherine Koons and her husband, Mike, of Lady Lake, Fla.; brother Gary Leach and his wife, Gina, of Delevan, Minn.; four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear friends and neighbors Gus and Angie Geschwind.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents James and Della Leach; brother John Leach; two sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.
The rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, at Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church in La Luz by Deacon Don Dickman. A memorial mass will follow at 4 p.m. with Father Bruce Hausfeld, O.F.M., as celebrant.
Inurnment will be held at a later date in Blue Earth.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Alamogordo Home Care/Hospice, 1859 Indian Wells Rd., Alamogordo, NM 88310.
The Leach family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place locally at PCS.
