Beloved father, son, brother, uncle and friend
James P. "Jimmy" Barela, 51, of Alamogordo, died Monday, March 3, 2008, in Alamogordo.
Jimmy was born June 29, 1956, in Alamogordo to Joe M. and Bertha (Salisbury) Barela.
He was a carpenter and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jane, of Virginia; a son, James Paul Barela Jr., of Virginia; a daughter, Theresa Barela, of Virginia; two stepdaughters, Bridgett Faux and her husband Tab, and Nicole Martin and her husband Patrick, all of Virginia; three grandchildren, Rafe Faux, Andrew Martin and Patrick Martin, all of Virginia; his mother, Bertha Barela, of Alamogordo; a brother, David Joe Barela and his wife Irene, of Roswell; five sisters, Kathy Simmons and her husband Craig, of Florida, Mary Barela, of Alamogordo, Jo Ann Gorrel and her husband Tim, of Boston, Mass., Jackie Barela and Tonia Barela, both of Alamogordo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Johnny Barela; and a nephew, Vincent Scott.
A vigil service will be conducted Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Hamilton-O'Dell Chapel with the Rosary to be recited by Estela Valle.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Bryant Hausfeld, O.F.M., as celebrant.
Interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be J.D. Klump, David Barela, Tony Sanchez, Joey Sanchez, Nathaniel Taylor and Ruben Salsberry. Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Bailey, Jamie Moreno, Joe Salsberry and Manuel Salsberry.
Friends may call Tuesday from 5 until 7 p.m. at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
