James Randolph Bohannon

1925 - 2015 Obituary Condolences

James (Jim) R. Bohannon of La Luz passed into heavenly eternal rest with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, April 19.
Jim was born March 11, 1925 in Mineral Springs, Ark.

Jim served in the US Navy during WWII as a submarine radio man. After the war, Jim lived in Carlsbad where he met Marie, his beautiful wife from Louisiana, in an ice cream shop. Jim worked for the American Potash Mine for 12 years in Carlsbad. After moving to Alamogordo, Jim worked for MetLife for 31 years in various positions and locations, including New York City and Denver, Colo. Jim achieved a CLU insurance certification and received an associates' degree from New Mexico State University.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Eunice Marie Bohannon, and children: Sue Nichols (Bob) of La Luz, Randy Bohannon (Marcia) of Conifer, Colo. and Cindy Schneider (Ron) of Denver, Colo. Jim has three grandsons: B.J. Nichols of Austin, Texas, R.B. Nichols of San Diego, Calif. and Wesley Bohannon of Reno, Nev. He is also survived by his brother Billy Bohannon of Atlanta, Ga. and several nieces and nephews.

Jim was an avid gardener and often shared the bounty of his large garden with friends, neighbors and his church community. Jim also supported animal charities, and he and Marie took in cats and dogs and even tamed a rooster that had been spurned by another rooster at a nearby farm. The rooster often sat in Jim's lap and proved to be a reliable alarm clock.

Jim's faith in the Lord is exemplified by the Gaelic meaning of his surname, "Victorious."

No services are scheduled.

The Bohannon family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services. Cremation will take place at PCS. To sign the online register book, please visit
