1934 - 2009 Obituary Condolences
James M. "Jim" Vaughn, 74, a longtime resident of Alamogordo, passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces.
Jim was born Oct. 16, 1934, in Leedy, Okla., to William Smith and Gladys Elizabeth (Foster) Vaughn. He served 29 years in the U.S. Air Force and retired as a senior master sergeant. He was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School for many years. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Vaughn, of the family home; a daughter, Melodie Napieracz, and her husband, John, of Alamogordo; a son, James Vaughn Jr., of Kileen, Texas; a granddaughter, Judy Napieracz, of Alamogordo; a brother, Lester Vaughn, and his wife, Marjie, of Longview, Texas; and three sisters, Bette Penner and her husband, Erlin, of Fairview, Okla., Carolyn Warren of Garden City, Kan., and Opal Smith and her husband, Lawrence, of Liberal, Kan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Oscar Vaughn, and his wife, Lurline.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, March 28, at 10 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Steve Trout, the Rev. Tom Richardson and the Rev. Mary Taken officiating.
Military honors will be provided by the Holloman Air Force Base Steel Talons Honor Guard.
