Janet Williams Shelton Obituary

Janet Williams Shelton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, went to her eternal home July 26, 2016, at the age of 81.

Janet was born Dec. 23, 1934, to Hershal and Jesse Williams of Bellview, Neb. She lived the majority of her life in Alamogordo, N.M. She graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1953. She worked for Land Air and for Goodyear Air Craft at Holloman Air Force Base. Janet was a member of Cuba Avenue Church of Christ for many years and worked as the church secretary there for 15 years.

On Oct. 24, 1953, Janet married the love of her life, John Shelton. For a span of nearly 63 years, Johnny and Janet built a life and a family that was full of love, laughter, faith and great times. Janet was a loving and supportive mother to Connie, born in 1956, and Jerry, born in 1959. A talented homemaker and cook, Janet created a home for her husband and children that was warm, welcoming and always a safe place to land for any and all.

In addition to being a wonderful wife and mother, Janet was a superb grandmother to her five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. It says something about a grandmother when all of her grandkids truly feel and believe themselves to be her favorite, believe that she belongs most to them.

Janet is preceded in death by her parents, Hershal and Jesse Williams; her brother, Raymond Dudley; and her sister, Monica June Carver.

She is survived by her husband, John Shelton, of Alamogordo, N.M.; her daughter, Connie Dugan, of Leander, Texas; her son, Jerry Shelton, and his wife, Carla, of Lubbock, Texas; her granddaughter, Krista Kerr, and her husband, Andrew, of Dallas, Texas; her grandson, Kyle Dugan, and his wife, Marta, of Cedar Park, Texas; her granddaughter, Kara Dorsey, and her husband, Nick, of Leander, Texas; her grandson, Jerrod Shelton, and her granddaughter, Carly Shelton, both of Lubbock, Texas; her three great grandchildren, Darby and Sutton Dugan and Charlee Dorsey; her sister, Carol Jean Hay, and her husband, Bill, of Alpena, Michigan; her sister-in-law, Mary Lou Duggin, and her husband, Bill, of Albuquerque, N.M.; her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and many, many friends.

Over her 81 years of life, Janet touched and enriched the lives of everyone she met. Her hospitality, her humor, her love of a good joke and a sweet story, her steadfast presence, her generosity with her time and love provided a sense of family to all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be at the Church of Christ, 1300 Cuba Avenue, Alamogordo, on Friday, August 12, 2016, at 11:30 a.m.
