Janice Sitton Obituary
We lost our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Jan Sitton, 75, a longtime Alamogordo resident, on Friday, June 18, 2010, in Alamogordo.
She was born Jan. 17, 1935, in Salina, Kan., to James Constant and Hazel (Wallace) Constant.
Jan married her high school sweetheart, Lewis Andrew Sitton, whom she met in Sunday School at Grace Methodist Church. She graduated high school in Springfield, Mo., in 1953, attended Southwest Missouri State Teachers College for one year and was married May 29, 1954. Jan and Lou were married for 56 years.
Jan worked and prided herself as supervisor of military clothing for 20 years at AAFES on Holloman Air Force Base, where she retired in 2002. She was an expert in military ribbons.
Jan lived in many places, including the NTC in San Diego; McConnel Air Force Base in Kansas, Ernest Harmon Air Force Base in Newfoundland, Canada, Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas, Soesterberg Air Force Base in the Netherlands and Holloman.
Jan extensively traveled Europe. Her favorite places include Paris, Moscow and Leningrad.
Jan was an enthusiast of Las Vegas. Jan was happiest playing slot machines and seeing shows among its bright lights.
Jan is loved by everyone who knew her and will be deeply missed. She fought valiantly against many ailments, including cancer, and was still fighting through the very end.
Jan is survived by her husband Lou Sitton of Alamagordo; their three children, Andy Sitton and his wife, Pui Sitton, of Bangkok Thailand; Doug Sitton, of Springville, Utah; Karen Stanbrough of Capitan; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jim and Hazel Constant.
There will be a celebration of life for Jan at 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at Alamogordo Funeral Home with the Rev. Mary Taken officiating. A reception will immediately follow at the funeral home.
The Sitton family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
