Cowboy poet
Jared Paul Nesset passed away on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, in Alamogordo. He was born in Forest City, Iowa, to Jared and Hazel (Harris) Nesset. On Nov. 28, 1942, he and Margaret Arthur were married in Forest City. He served in the Navy during World War II, attended Waldorf Junior College and Upper Iowa University and graduated from the University of California-Berkeley (B.S.) and Northern Illinois College of Optometry (O.D.). Jared practiced optometry in Forest City and Marshalltown, Iowa, from 1949 to 1969 and was a cattle rancher in Lander, Wyo. from 1969 to 1990. His volunteer interests covered the spectrum from working with the mentally handicapped, to auctioneering, to senior pro rodeoing, to writing and presenting cowboy poetry, to writing a weekly humor column for the Alamogordo Daily News.
Jared was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a son.
He is survived by Margy, his wife of 65 years, one daughter, one granddaughter and two great-granddaughters.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, at 10 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church in Alamogordo with Father Frank Wilson officiating. His cremains will be dispersed at a later date. Memorials may be sent to St. John's Episcopal Church in Alamogordo.
Cremation has taken place at PCS under the direction of Alamogordo Funeral Home.
