Jean D. Wright Obituary
Mrs. Jean D. Wright died May 26, 2017 at Columbus Hospice following a brief illness.

Funeral services for Mrs. Wright will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA beginning at 11:00 AM EST with the Rev. Chuck Hasty and Rev. Jones Doughton officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM EST.

Mrs. Wright was born in Staunton, VA to the late Virginia McCauley and Everett Lewis Drumheller. She graduated in 1950 with honors from Robert E. Lee High School, Staunton. She received a full scholarship to Agnes Scott College, Decatur, GA, from which she graduated in 1954 with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry. While there, she was inducted into the Chi Beta Phi national honor society. Upon graduation, she worked for several years at the Water Pollution Control Division in Atlanta, GA.

In 1955, she married Dr. Robert Hampton Wright, a dentist. They lived in Charleston, SC and Japan while Dr. Wright served as a dentist in the United States Navy. They moved to Columbus in 1959 where he practiced dentistry for many years and she was a homemaker and raised her children. She also attended Columbus State University where she received a Master's Degree in Music Education in 1978. She later served as choir director at Upatoi Methodist Church and also gave private piano and voice lessons for many years. She was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church, Columbus, where she participated in the adult choir and the hand bell choir.

Mrs. Wright is survived by two sons, Robert H. Wright, Jr. and daughter-in-law Lisa Wright of Hamilton, Georgia and Thomas E. Wright of Tallahassee, Florida, two grandchildren, Samantha Wright and Robert H. Wright, III (Molly) of Columbus, a sister, Peggy D. Stiegel, Alamogordo, NM, a brother in law and sister in law, Jamie and Betty Wright of Snellville, GA, several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in her memory to the First Presbyterian Church, Columbus, Georgia or the PAWS animal shelter, Columbus, Georgia.
