Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Dear Friend

Jeanette Mendez Leon-Guerrero passed away Tuesday, 21 Dec. 2010. She was born July 17, 1951, to Cruz and Julia Saenz Mendez of Bent. Jeanette graduated from Tularosa High School in 1969 as class valedictorian. She married Pete Leon-Guerrero on May 12, 1970.
She retired in October 2010 after 20 years of civil service from the Department of the Navy as a program analyst.
Jeanette loved to spend time with her family, especially with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Pete; her son Michael Leon-Guerrero; daughter Julia Leon-Guerrero Halverson and her husband Jason; and grandchildren Michael, Ian, and Amelia, all of Washington state. She is also survived by her brothers Charlie and wife Olivia, Ralph and wife Margret, Albert and wife Ruthie, Tony and wife Lorraine, all of Tularosa; her sisters Kathy Davis and husband Raymond "Butch" of Tularosa, Evelyn Estrada of El Paso, Pauline and her husband Joe of Daleville, Ala. and Bertha Baca and her husband Julio of Bent; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Cruz and Julia Mendez; older brother Johnnie Mendez; sister-in-law Ester Baca; and younger sister Caroline Mendez.
A Memorial Service is will be conducted in Bremerton, Wash. on Jan. 8, 2011. A local Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Bent at 6 p.m.
