Jeanne K. Stewart

Obituary Condolences

Jeanne K. Stewart, 82, formerly of Alamogordo, passed from this earth on Thursday, March 27, 2008.
She was born Laura Imogene Keller on Sept. 5, 1925 in Covington, Oklahoma, to E.M. and Ida Keller. She grew up in Pampa, Texas, and after graduation from Pampa High School, went on to attend Colorado Women's College in Denver. On a blind date, Jeanne met Wayne Stewart, of Enid, Okla. They were married Aug. 10, 1947, in Pampa. Shortly thereafter, they relocated to Borger, Texas where Wayne worked for Panhandle State Bank. In 1956, then moved to Alamogordo where Wayne continued his banking career at the newly-founded First National Bank. Jeanne lived, worked and participated in the community of Alamogordo for 45 years, finally moving to Austin, Texas in 2001 to be near her daughter.
Jeanne, a dedicated wife and loving mother, enjoyed her life and raising her children in Alamogordo. She was a fabulous cook, a member of the First Baptist Church, and an auxiliary volunteer at the Gerald Champion Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, attending various social events, accompanying Wayne on his business travels, and lovingly tending to her many pets over the years. She especially enjoyed her hobbies, which included needle point, china painting, and gardening. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her, but comfort can be taken in knowing that she is now at peace with her Lord.
Jeanne is survived by her sister Dorothea Goodwin of Wichita Falls, Texas; her son Gary W. Stewart and his wife Evelyn of Albuquerque; her daughter Jo Beth Conner and her husband Brian of Austin, Texas; her grandchildren Ira, Katy, Chelsea, Ryan, James, Marcus, Hailey and Chloe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Wayne on Nov. 2, 1981; a son Mark on April 26, 1995; and brother Bob Keller on Oct. 8, 2005.
A memorial service will be conducted on Friday, April 11, 2008, at 1 p.m. in the Hamilton-O'Dell Chapel with the Rev. Mary Taken officiating.
Inurnment will follow in Monte Vista Cemetery.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in Jeanne's name to the Humane Society of Otero County, P.O. Box 686, La Luz, New Mexico, 88337, http://hsocnm.org/.
