Jerry Donovan Romero

1975 - 2015 Obituary Condolences

Jerry Romero, 40, passed away on August 8, 2015 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He was born on July 29, 1975 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

As a kid, Jerry loved hunting with his dad, Ronald Romero, brothers; Alex and Joseph Romero, uncles; William Dodson and Bobby Romero, godfather Mike and godbrother Mickey Romero.

At the age of 15 years old, Jerry began coaching with his father in what would become his lifelong passion. Just four years later he was coaching on his own. He was the manager who coached the Alamo Do It Center Twins and won the last baseball championship played on Optimist Little League Field in 1995. Jerry coached his first Gus Macker Championship with Mo, Avi, Shania and Shannon in 2009. Jerry's team "Heat" won six basketball championships; 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2013 at the Rec Center. Earlier this year he was named President of the Tiger Youth League.

Jerry loved playing Texas Hold 'Em with friends who he considered to be like family.

Jerry's number one pride and joy and his ultimate accomplishment in life was his children, Alexis Mariah and Donovan Alex Ray. His children were the most important thing to him, they were the reason he fought through all of his struggles and they were what kept him going all of his years. He was also very proud to have considered Gabriella Durham like one of his own.

Someone that Jerry wanted to specifically recognize is Helen Gonzalez. She took him in as one of her own kids and she became a mother figure to him.

Jerry especially wanted to acknowledge his BB, Joseph Romero. Jerry relied upon his BB and Jasmine Soto to help with anything he needed at any time. They were dependable and there for him no matter what.

Jerry also wanted to make sure, "BIG THANK YOU to my sister Theresa Marie for being there for me and always helping me with my kids. For a long time she was my rock in my household. I was supposed to be my sister's keeper but she ended up being mine."

Jerry was a well-known member of his community. He will be remembered for his countless contributions which included his coaching efforts and the countless youth he has mentored over the years with a caring attitude.

Jerry was preceded in death by his brother Alex Romero, uncle Pat McNaughton, uncle Bobby Romero, grandpa Jerry Romero, grandpa and grandma Don and Petra Adams and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents.

Jerry is survived by his kids Alexis Romero, Donovan Romero and Gabi Durham, parents; Ron and Theresa Romero and Mike and Tammy Martin, brothers; Ron Romero Jr. and Kami, Izzak Hoch, Joseph Romero and Jasmine Soto, sisters; Theresa Marie Romero, Kristal Padilla and Cherylynn Jones, nephews; Andrew Romero, Ethan Romero and Joseph (Lil J) Romero Jr., nieces; Alesa Abita, Paris Romero, Elliot (Ellie) Romero and Cherylynn's daughters, godsons; Angel and Roman Telles, goddaughter; Kalila Ramirez, grandparents; Ted and Jo Duran and Claire Romero.
