Jerry Lynn Smith Obituary

Mr. Jerry Lynn Smith, 75, loving Husband, Father and Grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Alamogordo, New Mexico, on Thursday, May 14th, 2015. Jerry was born on October 7, 1939, in Lubbock, Texas, to parents Rudie and Rose (Glascow) Smith.

Jerry proudly served the country that he loved for 6 years, enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1957 and separating from service in 1963 at the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class.

Jerry was an avid golfer, had incredible passions for cooking, fishing and a tremendous love for motorcycles. All who knew Jerry knew him to enjoy a laugh at a good joke, that he was a great fan of both college and professional football and that he dearly loved each and every member of his cherished and extended family.
Jerry was a long time member of the Elks Lodge (BPOE), serving in the honorable position of Exalted Ruler of the Clear Lake Elks Lodge (2322) in Kemah (Houston), Texas, in 2005.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Myra Smith of the family home in Alamogordo, three daughters, Melissa (Daryl) Johnson of Watauga, Texas, Heather (Olin) Gibbons of Fort Worth, Texas, and Megan (Grant) Goodwin of Watauga, Texas; two step-sons, John R. Grisak Jr. of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Ron (Kim) Grisak of Alamogordo, New Mexico, a step-daughter, Becky (Dale) Blalock of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, as well as an amazing fourteen (14) Grandchildren and five (5) Great-grandchildren.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Rudie Dean and Rose Margaret Smith, a sister, Marilyn Burkhardt, and a brother, Joe Dean Smith.

A Memorial Service will be held to honor Jerry's life on Saturday, May 16th 2015, at 11 a.m. at Heart Cowboy Church, with Pastor Couy Griffin officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the Smith family asks that donations be made in Jerry's name to: Animal Village, 7246 U.S. Highway 54/70, Alamogordo, NM 88310.

The Smith family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services. Cremation will take place at PCS.
