Jim Cadwallader Obituary
Jim Cadwallader of Mountain Park, age 83, passed Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011. Born April 10, 1927, in Alamogordo, he lived his life in Mountain Park and was a World War II and Korean War veteran. He was a teacher, farmer, writer and musician. An active member of the community, he served on the board of directors of LOCO Credit Union from January 1990 to January 2000, was active in Alamogordo Musical Theatre, The Sounds of Enchantment barbershop group, and a contract bridge player.
He graduated with a degree in English from Colorado State University.
The Department of Commence honored him Sept. 1, 2010, for 40 years of service for weather data collection in Mountain Park. He and his brother Jon continued the family tradition, begun 1925-1930, with the National Weather Service as weather observers.
He is the last of his generation of Cadwalladers, preceded in death by his brothers Allen, Jon and his sister Martha. The family has been in New Mexico since 1902.
Jim is survived by Jane Cadwallader; his five children Allene Cadwallader, Jan Philpot, Laurel Wachtler, Gwynn Cadwallader and James Cadwallader; 11 grandchildren and many other family members.
The memorial service will be held at the Alamogordo Funeral Home, 2301 First St., Alamogordo, NM 88310, on Monday, March 7, 2011, at 10 a.m. Call 434-5253 for more information.
