Jimmy G. Armijo
Jimmy G. Armijo, 88, of Alamogordo, passed away Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at his home. Jimmy was born May 7, 1922, in Glorietta to Filadelfo and Emma (Gilbert) Armijo.
Jimmy served his country with the United States Army during World War 11 and the Korean conflict, receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, and was a P.O.W. for 3 1/2 years. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 7686 in Alamogordo, and American Legion Post 14. After his military career, Jimmy worked as a cook at Holloman Air Force Base.
Jimmy married Dolores Valencia on May 27, 1946, in Pecos.
He is also survived by his son Robert Armijo and his wife, Alice, of Denver; a daughter-in-law, Stella Brusuella; grandchildren Louis Armijo, of Denver, Jimmy Armijo III, of Tularosa, and Jude Armijo, of Tularosa; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and brother Julio Armijo, of Denver.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, son Jimmy Armijo Jr., seven brothers and a sister.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Pecos.
Pallbearers include Paul Armijo, Andrew Armijo, Michael Armijo, Martin Armijo, Ricky Varela and Charlie Valencia.
The Armijo family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
