Joan Elizabeth Oakes-Miller

Obituary Condolences

Retired in 1998 after 28 years of service with AAFES
Joan Elizabeth Oakes-Miller, 69, of Boles Acres, NM, passed away, Tuesday, November 25, 2008, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Joan was born November 30, 1938 in Norwood, New York to Wesley Josephus Mattice and Bernetta Vivian (Fullerton) Mattice.
She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She lived to care for her family; most of all her grandchildren. Her ultimate goal in life was to see her family happy and secure in life. When she found herself with little to give, her family still felt as thought they had it all. There was always a hug and a kiss when her family arrived and when it was time to say good-bye. She often commented that her children were her rock, however; she was her family's rock as she made our world the brightest ever with her love and generosity. There will forever be an empty part of our hearts that only she could ever fill.
Mom, you will always be with us as there are no words that can truly describe what you have been to us, just know that we will forever love you and miss you.
Survivors include her daughters Becky Ross and her husband Adam of La Luz, New Mexico, Debby Lasiter of Boles Acres, New Mexico, and Jackie Lousie Oakes-Gipson of Kingman, Arizona; Grandchildren James Richards, Timothy Richards, Dawn Flowers and her husband Zachary Flowers Sr., Stephanie Anne Gipson and fiancé Brad Allen Jennings, and Joanie Lasiter; Great grandchild Zachary Flowers Jr.; Sister Annie LaBarge and her husband John of Norfold, New York; and her best friend forever, Daphne Renfro of Alamogordo, New Mexico.
Joan is preceded in death by her husbands Desmond Dufore Oakes and Benjamin Miller; Parents; Sister Audrey Sharlow and her husband Deeds.
Cremation services are under the direction of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
