JoAnn Francis Obituary

Teacher, quilter, devoted mother and grandmother, JoAnn Francis passed away on Oct. 18, 2014, due to complications from Alzheimer's disease.

JoAnn was born in Atlanta, Ga., the eldest child of Charlie and Eva Parker. She met the love of her life, Dean Francis, at a military dance in Atlanta. Following their wedding on New Year's Eve in 1956, she moved to Alamogordo to begin her new life.
JoAnn worked for a short time at Convair on Holloman Air Force Base before beginning her teaching career. She taught for more than 35 years, most of them at North Elementary. She loved working with the children and seeing former students in town.
JoAnn was an excellent cook, and a marvelous seamstress and quilter. She was a member of the Enchanted Quilter's Guild, and she served for many years as a Pink Lady at Gerald Champion Memorial Hospital.

Her husband Dean passed away in 1973.

JoAnn is survived by her son, Timothy Francis, who cared for her at home during her final years; her daughter Priscilla Milner of Albuquerque, and by her grandson Keegan Milner also of Albuquerque. She is also survived by her sister, Beverly Jones of Winter Park, Fla., and brother-in-law, Dennis Francis, of Chicago, Ill.

Graveside services will be at Monte Vista Cemetery on Thursday, Oct. 23rd, at 2 p.m. A reception will follow at Desert Lakes Golf Course, 2351 Hamilton Road, Alamogordo.

The Francis family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services. To sign the online register book, please visit
