Joaquin "Kino" Ortiz Obituary
Joaquin "Kino" Ortiz, 93, passed away Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at his home in Alamogordo. He was born Oct. 15, 1918, in Carrizozo to Joaquin and Juanita Ortiz.
Kino served in the U.S. Army. He also was the owner and operator of multiple businesses in Carrizozo before entering the Postal Service, where he served as a former president of the New Mexico Postmaster's Association, as well as a former national committee member for the western region. He retired as postmaster in Cloudcroft. He was an avid golfer and played for more than 50 years, winning many tournaments throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Phillip Ortiz; and his brothers Leo, Salvador and Manuel Ortiz.
He is survived by his wife, Lydia Ortiz, of Alamogordo; three daughters, Susan and her partner, John Allison, of Baltimore, Keena and her husband, Darren Ladouceur, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Deanna and her husband, Dr. Joseph Clymire, of Easton, Pa.; three sons, Bill and his partner, Barbara, of Albuquerque, David and his wife, Stella, of Albuquerque, and Manny, of Albuquerque; and his stepson Ken Montes and his wife, Mary, of Albuquerque. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Direct cremation will take place under the care of PCS Direct Cremation Services. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Kino's life at the Ortiz family home in Alamogordo on Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, at 3 p.m.
The rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at Santa Rita Catholic Church in Carrizozo.
Following the rosary, Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. with Father Tony Basso as celebrant. Interment of the ashes will then follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Cemetery.
The Ortiz family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.
