Joe Chanez Baca Obituary
Joe Chanez Baca, 82, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center in Alamogordo.

Joe was born April 20, 1935 to Ramon and Ramona Baca in Faywood, NM. He attended Grant county schools and then went to serve his country in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant after 25 years. While on active duty, he was stationed at bases in Korea, New Mexico, Hawaii, California, Thailand and Germany. Joe returned to Holloman AFB, NM where he served as the 49th Combat Support Group First Sergeant and Security Police Superintendent. During his distinguished military service, he received numerous awards and honors to include the Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), Commendation Medal (1 OLC), and Lifetime Master Award through the National Rifle Association as a result of his wins as a member of the Security Police Revolver and Rifle Team. Joe continued to serve the United States government as a civil service employee for ten additional years.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Rachel Baca, their two children, daughter, Vivian and her husband, Tony Garcia, Alamogordo, NM; son Raymond and his wife, Amy Baca, Austin, TX; his precious grandchildren, Krystal Rae Garcia and her fiancé, Dan Mosley, Denver, CO; Kristin Leigh and her husband, Matthew Solis, Las Cruces, NM; Mandi Rae Baca, Albuquerque, NM; and Joseph Ray Baca, Las Cruces, NM. Joe was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, AJ Solis and Mya Jade Louis. Joe was the eighth of twelve children and is survived by five brothers, Thomas, Edward, Elfigo, Jesus and Ramon; two sisters, Mary Torres and Margaret Baca and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Porfirio, Eugene and Alfredo Baca and a sister, Carolina Garcia.

Joe, or "Grandpa Goofy", as his grandchildren fondly called him, was best known for his mischievous pranks, corny jokes, woodworking projects, going to the casino, as well as being an avid bowler. Joe also loved his music and never missed an opportunity to dance the night away with his soul mate and best friend, Rachel.

Joe fought his fiercest battle with Parkinson's disease for over 28 years. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Association, www.apdaparkinson.org www.apdaparkinson.org/>.

The recitation of the most Holy Rosary will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at 10:15 a.m. and Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 a.m. at St Jude Catholic Church, 1404 College Ave, Alamogordo, NM. Inurnment will follow the services at the St Jude Columbarium.

The Baca family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
