Joe M. Carabajal Obituary

Joe was born in Alamogordo, N.M., on Oct. 6, 1934. He graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1953. He joined the Navy in August 1953 and served until July 1957. In 1958, he married the love of his life, Bertha Garcia from La Luz, N.M. He worked Civil Service at White Sands Missile Range and retired in 1990. He then worked for the El Paso Independent School District from 1992 – 2006 where he was known as "Robo Cop!"

Joe enjoyed golfing and he loved coaching his children and grandchildren. His passion was supporting his grandchildren in every sport they played in. He was their No. 1 fan.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents Adolfo and Juanita Carabajal, brother Alfredo Carabajal, sisters Nela Moya, Veva Gonzalez, and Helen Duran, and also, his grandson Joey Angel Ramos III.

He leaves behind his beautiful wife of 58 years, Bertha Carabajal; children, Mike Carabajal (wife Maggie), Susan Johnson, and John Carabajal (wife Maribel); grandchildren, Erica Carabajal, Valarie Carabajal, Jason Garza, Jake Garza (wife Maribel), Aarron Ramos Sr. (wife Mariel), Armani Johnson, Sydney Johnson, Marcus Johnson (wife Tasha), Courtney Johnson, John Carabajal Jr. (wife Angel), Rene Carabajal, Christopher Carabajal and Pauline Carabajal; great grandchildren, Aarron Ramos Jr., Nayeli Ramos, Estevan Carabajal, Serenity Carabajal, Jake Jr. Garza, George Garza, Madison Garza, Brooke Johnson, Maddie Johnson and Amelia Johnson; brother Adolfo, and several nieces and nephews.

Reciting of the Rosary for Joe will be held on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016, at 7:00 p.m., at Sunset Funeral Home - 4631 Hondo Pass, El Paso, TX. Funeral Mass is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 7, 2016, at 12:30 p.m., at Blessed Sacrament Church- 9025 Diana Drive, El Paso, TX. Burial will follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery with military honors- 5200 Fred Wilson Ave., El Paso, TX.
