Joe Pete Wood Jr Obituary
Joe Pete Wood Jr., 85, passed away in his home on Jan. 19, 2014, surrounded by his family. Born in Albuquerque, in 1928, Mr. Wood is well known in the Tularosa Basin area as one of the "Bee Men" that removed bees from homes and businesses. He was a fiddle player and enjoyed spending time with his many family and friends and felt especially blessed to be included in the choir at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church with Eddie Zamora and the members of his choir.

As a young man, he served two years in the Navy before he came back to the ranch owned by his family in the San Andres. Mr. Wood was part of the ranchers that were removed from their ranches in the San Andres after the first atomic bomb was detonated on the White Sands Missile Range. When the government ordered the ranchers off of the San Andres, he went to work as a civil servant on the base for 37 years.

Numerous trips for family reunions were made to the San Andres years later with the whole family and friends. During these trips, Mr. Wood and his wife instilled a love for the San Andres and their heritage in their children that lives in them to this day.

Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his parents Joe Pete Wood Sr. and Dominica Chiado Wood, maternal and paternal grandparents, and numerous aunts and uncles from both sides of his family.

Mr. Wood is survived by his wife, Ruth H. Wood, of the family home; four daughters Frances Grinder and Jimmy, of Tularosa, Mary Lou Martin and Paul, of Alamogordo, Doreen Teel and Vaughn, of Weed, and Margie Wood, of Tularosa; nine grandchildren Kevin Grinder and Jacquetta, of Hagerman, Brian Grinder and Julie, of La Luz, Stacie Fuchs and Nathan, of Ft.
