1931 - 2008 Obituary Condolences
Joe Turning passed away Jan. 29, 2008. A private family service was held. Interment will be held in Alamogordo at a later date. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia, Amarillo, Texas.
Mr. Turning was born in St. Paul, Minn., Nov. 8, 1931. He married Janet Vogt in St. Paul in 1953. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He worked as an electrician for a defense contractor at White Sands Missile Range near Alamogordo.
He was a Boy Scout Leader and helped establish Troop No. 146. Mr. Turning enjoyed fishing and had a great sense of humor. After the death of his wife, Janet, in 2005, he moved to Amarillo to be closer to family.
He is survived by two daughters, Susan Hutt and husband Scott, of Papillion, Neb., and Ruth Ross and her husband Larry, of Amarillo; one son, David Turning and wife Nena, of Edgewood; and seven grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be sent to Ware Memorial Nursing Home and Assisted Living Center, 400 West 14th, Amarillo, Texas 79101.
