Coach John Thomas "J. T." Elmore, 82
Coach John Thomas "J. T." Elmore of Tuscaloosa, Ala., passed away Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010, at the DCH Regional Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held at the Skelton Funeral Home chapel on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Jack House will perform the service.
He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Morgan Elmore; his parents; sister Mary Maudine Larson; brothers Cecil, Hayes and Doug Elmore; sister-in-law Edna Earl Elmore; nephew Alan Caldwell; and niece Brenda Mills. He is survived by a son John Elmore, of Tuscaloosa; brothers Bernard Elmore, of Gordo, Ala., Verner Elmore and his wife, Betty, of Gordo, Joe Elmore and his wife, Daryle, of Reform, Ala., George Elmore and his wife, Carol, of Huntsville, Ala., Larry Elmore and his wife, Marty, of Soddy Daisy, Tenn.; brother-in-law Alf Larson, of Huntsville; sisters-in-law Frances Graham and her husband, Herb, of Columbus, Miss., and Linda Elmore, of Jackson, Miss.; granddaughter Madison; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Elmore was born June 23, 1928, in Reform to the late Archie S. Elmore and Vera Lee Bridges Elmore. He was a retired coach and teacher for schools in Pickens County, Escambia County and in New Mexico. He also worked as an insurance agent for many years.
J.T. was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War and was a well-known resident of Pickens and Tuscaloosa counties.
Honorary pallbearers are Ted, Martha, Jeffrey and Jeffrey Allen Jr., Timothy and Rowe Elmore, Joe Reed and Pickens County High School classes of 1956 to 1960.
Extra special thanks to the employees of Heritage Health Care and Rehab for the care you gave J. T. during his stay, Lois Fuller for her faithful weekly visits and to anyone who had ever enjoyed a round of golf with J.T.
